(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Mai-Otome (舞乙HiME) is an anime produced by Sunrise, Inc. that started airing on October 6th, 2005 on TV Tokyo. The show is a sequel to Mai-Hime (舞-HiME), but is set in an alternate universe. Mai-Otome uses characters from Mai-Hime, but changes their roles and backgrounds to suit the new storyline.

The anime is a mixture of the magical girl genre and maid genre. The plot of the anime is centered around a training school for Otome, who are women trained for combat for the protection of royals and politicians, called Garderobe in the Windbloom Kingdom.

I'm grabbing the first episode right now from Doremi Fansubs, and I'll tell you how it is when I watch it.

Anyway, thanks to the magic of Bittorrent, it took 16 minutes to download, and so I just finished watching it. The series looks great!

Static-Subs, who did the fansubbing for Mai-HiME that we all saw, is now also doing Mai-Otome, in both high- and low-quality releases. I'm grabbing the HQ release to compare against Doremi's release.

Hrm... Each translation has its ups and downs, as far as I can tell. Judge for yourself, but I'll probably stick to Doremi.

hmm thought I had posted a reply to this...maybe that was when my computer reset...anyways...

What was the point in calling the series Mai-Otome if Mai isn't even in it? I liked Mai too...anyways, I think this series would be great on its own, but as a sequel to Mai-HiME, I don't think it really does Mai-HiME justice...its one thing to make a series with some character similarities or even same names, but it's quite another thing to call that series a Sequel if it's got just about nothing to do with the original...still apart from it being a crappy sequel, looks great so far.

glad to see however that Nagi is still generally the same. :) Way he acts, and talks and all that, one of my fav characters right there I think. :)

I think the Mai in this is an acronym, like HiME was in Mai-HiME. Prolly means Materializing something something. Otome means maiden or maid in Japanese.

Fool: Doremi is subtitling the themes now, as of ep. 5.

And so Mai gets her first mention in this episode (episode 12), which just adds to the mystery of "What happened to Mai?"

By the way, I didn't mention this before, but Maihime (The Dancing Girl) was the name of a piece of Meiji-era literature by Mori Ougai. His daughter, incidentally, apparently influenced the yaoi movement in Japan.

While I still have some catching up to do, I'm totally liking the new alternate story so far. However, Natsuki (I know I didn't spell that properly :P) just doens't feel the same without her being all moody "I don't need you!"

Ah well....still a fun watch so far.

Well in episode 12 Mai gets her first mention, and at the end of episode 22 she shows up with Mikoto (The real one, not the cat one), of course she is completely covered in Shadow, but you know it's her, especially if you watch the preview for episode 23.

I liked the after-battle montage near the end of the series, especially the scene with Tomoe.

Anyone seen Mai Otome Zwei yet?
